What you get second-hand
- Single-door models known for staying cold for hours during load-shedding.
- Often a bit cheaper than LG or Samsung at the same size.
- A wide dealer and service network across Nepal.
What moves the price
- Inverter double doors are worth Rs 3,000–6,000 more than non-inverter ones.
- Age and a clean cooling test decide most of the price.
Before you pay for a used fridge
- 1On direct-cool single doors, check the freezer isn't packed with ice; heavy icing points to a door-seal problem.
- 2See it running: the freezer should frost and the fridge should feel cold within 30–60 minutes of switching on.
- 3Listen to the compressor. A steady hum is fine; loud knocking, clicking on and off every few minutes or a hot, constantly running compressor is not.
- 4Close the door on a sheet of paper: if it slides out easily, the door seal (gasket) needs replacing.
- 5Look under and behind for rust, oily spots on the pipes (a sign of a gas leak) and a damaged power cord.
- 6Ask its age, whether it's an inverter model and whether it has needed a gas refill. A refill or compressor repair is a reason to pay less.
- 7Move it upright, and let it stand 3–4 hours at home before switching it on so the oil settles back into the compressor.
- 8Use a voltage stabilizer unless the model is rated stabilizer-free.
