What you get second-hand

  • A three-to-four-year-old flagship: battery health usually sits in the low-to-mid 80s.
  • The 48MP main camera is a clear step up in low light and detail over the 13 series.
  • Dynamic Island and the always-on display, still features of current iPhones.
  • Still Lightning, not USB-C. That arrived with the 15 series.

What moves the price

  • Battery health matters most: each 5% under 90% is worth about Rs 2,500–3,500.
  • 256GB adds roughly Rs 5,000–8,000 over 128GB.
  • Deep Purple and Gold can sell slightly faster, though not always for more.
  • Replaced screens are common on this model; a non-genuine display costs you the always-on brightness and Rs 8,000–15,000 in value.

Before you pay for a used iPhone

  1. 1Turn on the always-on display and check the screen for green tint or burn-in in the Dynamic Island area.
  2. 2Test the 48MP camera: Settings → Camera → Formats → ProRAW (Pro models) should be available.
  3. 3Dial *#06# and check the IMEI is registered in NTA's MDMS system (mdms.nta.gov.np). An unregistered phone can be blocked from Nepali networks.
  4. 4Settings → General → About → Parts and Service History should show only Genuine Apple Parts. 'Unknown Part' on the battery, display or camera means a cheap replacement.
  5. 5Settings → Battery → Battery Health. Under 80% means a battery change soon (Rs 6,000–12,000 for a good one); price that in.
  6. 6Make sure the seller signs out of iCloud and erases the phone in front of you, then set it up with your own Apple ID. Never buy a phone with Activation Lock on.
  7. 7Test Face ID, all cameras (including zoom), the speakers, the microphone (record a voice memo) and charging.
  8. 8If True Tone is missing from Control Center's brightness controls, the screen has been replaced.
  9. 9Meet in daylight at a busy place, check everything before handing over money, and ask for the box and bill if they exist.

On HaatBazar, reserve the item to hold it for 48 hours and chat with the seller, then meet and check everything before paying the rest.
