What you get second-hand

  • Fast, cool and completely silent; there's no fan to wear out.
  • Battery life that's still all-day on most units with under 500 cycles.
  • 8GB RAM handles browsing, Office and light photo editing; pick 16GB for heavy multitasking or video work.
  • Only two USB-C ports and one external display.

What moves the price

  • Battery cycle count: under 300 cycles is a premium unit; over 800 means a battery replacement is coming.
  • 16GB RAM adds Rs 8,000–15,000; 512GB storage adds Rs 6,000–10,000.
  • Screen marks or delamination take a big bite, since a new display is expensive.
  • Original charger and box add trust and a little value.

Before you pay for a used MacBook

  1. 1Check the exact model in About This Mac: it should say 'MacBook Air (M1, 2020)'. The M2 model looks different (flat lid, MagSafe).
  2. 2Apple menu → About This Mac → More Info → System Report → Power: note the battery Cycle Count and Condition. Apple rates these batteries for 1,000 cycles.
  3. 3Check Activation Lock is off (System Report → Hardware) and that the Mac isn't enrolled in a company's management (Remote Management). Both can lock you out.
  4. 4Watch the seller sign out of iCloud and erase the Mac (System Settings → General → Transfer or Reset → Erase All Content and Settings).
  5. 5Test every keyboard key, the trackpad click, both USB-C ports with the charger, the camera, speakers and Wi-Fi.
  6. 6Look at the screen on a white page for stains or bright spots, and on a dark page for marks from the keyboard.
  7. 7Enter the serial number at checkcoverage.apple.com to see the real model, year and any remaining warranty.

On HaatBazar, reserve the item to hold it for 48 hours and chat with the seller, then meet and check everything before paying the rest.
